And here is a story about Zac – Zac Efron and his addiction difficulties.

October 19, 2015 Addiction, Naturopathic Medicine, Recovery coaching by Aaron Van Gaver

Zac Efron’s recent stint in rehab may have flown largely under the radar, but his struggles with addiction are proof that even the attractive and successful have their demons. He finally opened up about the experience last year and admitted that he knew he needed help when the weekends became the focal point of his life and Mondays/Tuesday had become a slog.

Efron now regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, in order to remain on the right track. He has gone on record as stating his addiction is a never ending struggle, a problem that he will have to contend with for the rest of his life, in a refreshing moment of honesty from the young star.

He also admitted that his reasons for going to rehab were very simple: he had come to rely on substances to get through the day and had trouble spending time around people without the proper “social lubricant”, in his own words. Although the rehab stint took place somewhat quietly, back in 2013, Efron has not been shy about opening up to others who may find themselves in a similar position.

The constant presence of paparazzi only served to fuel Efron’s downfall, as he began to feel the pressure of having his every move watched and scrutinized by an unfeeling, uncaring public.

As someone who has been in the public eye ever since his rise to stardom as one of the main characters in Disney’s smash hit High School Musical, the associated pressures of existing in a public sphere became too much for him to handle on a day to day basis.

Efron spoke about the difficulty that came with knowing that all eyes were on him and how he would retreat into his home much more frequently, refusing to emerge until he had properly prepared himself to deal with the world. Unfortunately, his preparations involved a cornucopia of substances.

Rehab served Efron quite well, as it allowed him to get away from drinking and drugging, placing his focus back where it needed to be: squarely on his work. He realized that he had lost sight of his budding career and was in danger of losing everything he had worked so hard for. This realization was the impetus that made him seek the help he needed.

Ever since he emerged from rehab, Efron’s career has been able to resume as scheduled and he credits rehab with helping him to develop a greater sense of self confidence and he has spoken about being extraordinarily grateful for the opportunities that he has continued to receive.

Life continues to go swimmingly for the young actor and as he continues to transition into more adult roles, the perspective that he was able to gain during rehab will serve him well.
