What is the best way to balance hormone levels?

February 7, 2014 All, Hormones, Naturopathic Medicine, Nutrition, Vitamin Therapy by Aaron Van Gaver

Today I wanted to talk about one of the most important organs in the body for regulating hormone levels.

No it’s not the Thyroid.

It’ your Adrenal Glands.

Your Adrenal Glands sit on top of your Kidney – its main responsibility is to help the body adapt to stress.  Two of the main hormones secreted by this gland is Epinephrine and Cortisol.  If we didn’t make either of these 2 hormones – we would die – Cortisol is what helps us adapt to all sorts of stressors.

For anyone that is dealing with constantly having to balance your Thyroid medications, or perhaps you are suffering from hot flashes – the most important thing you can do to help with this is to regulate your Sleep / Wake Cycle.

That’s it!   If you can get to bed the same time EACH night (that includes weekends) as well as weak up at the SAME time every morning – this will help stabilize your circadian rhythm.  Going to bed before midnight is another important thing to do.

What are some ways to help you get to sleep at the appropriate time?

Turn the temperature down in your bedroom
Turn all sources of light off
Turn on a fan (white noise)

And if you get really desperate for help — come to the clinic and try out some Acupuncture.

Cheers,
